Lectures for 583 will be in Loomis room 136 at 2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Your attendance and participation is expected. Lecture notes will be provided below (when logged in). I will attempt to have them available prior to the lectures so that you can review the material ahead of time.

Lecture Notes

Lecture notes are provided for the use of registered students in the course. These, and any other course materials, should not be distributed further. To see the lecture notes, you must be logged in to the secure server. Click the log-in button at right.

There is no required textbook for the course, as the lecture notes are essentially a book. There are many textbooks on quantum field theory available that you might like to consult for a second opinion. Many of them are better read once you have an appreciation for the subject. Here are a few examples:

Peskin, Schroeder
An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory
particle theory oriented
Field Theories of Condensed Matter Physics
CMT oriented
Quantum Field Theory
The Quantum Theory of Fields: Volume 1
hard going for the unitiated
