CS411 Policies
Class
Attendance
- Please note that lecture slides complement the lectures,
rather than replacing
them. So, you should attend or view the lectures.
Examinations
- Make-up exams will not be given except in fully
documented cases of medical or other emergencies. Please make sure you
can attend all the exams as scheduled. Don't schedule your GREs or a plant trip
for May 8!
Late
Submissions
- All scheduled due dates/times are Illinois time (US
Central Time).
- Due date/time will be strictly enforced. Unless otherwise specified, you should hand in your submissions at the office of the course
administrator (SC2106) by 3:15 PM on the day they are due; note, however,
that the administrator is gone during the lunch hour. If you haven't turned yours in by the time
the course staff take the completed assignments away for grading (which will be
no earlier than 3:15 PM), then you are out of luck, as no work will be accepted
after this collection.
- Missing work gets zero credit. If you are
unable to complete an assignment due to illness or family emergency, please see
the instructor as soon as possible to make special arrangements. All such
exceptional cases must be fully documented. If you have a known upcoming conflict with a
due date (e.g., plant trip or corporate trip), please make arrangements with
the appropriate staff member when the assignment is given out.
Regrading
- All requests to change grading of any course
work must be submitted in writing within three days of when the
grades are made available. Requests must be specific and explain why you
feel your work deserves additional credit. Do not ask for a regrade until you
have studied and understood our sample solution.
-
All requests about missing (or zero) grades must
be submitted in writing to the appropriate TA within three days
of when the grades are announced.
Academic
Integrity
- All course work that you submit must represent
your own work (if it is an individual assignment) or that of your registered
team (if it is a group assignment).
Discussions on readings and assignments are
strongly encouraged. However, such collaboration should be limited to
general strategies and ideas, but not write-ups of specific solutions. As a
general rule, your submitted work should represent the identifiable efforts and
originality of you or your registered team.
Plagiarism is a violation of this academic
integrity policy.
- Violation of the integrity policy generally results
in a 0 for the assignment. In the past,
I have failed graduating seniors who cheated on their final exam for CS411.
