# Automatic Volleyball Scorekeeper

## Problem
Often times while playing pickup volleyball, players are always asking each other what the score is. This not only interrupts the flow of the game, but the score is likely not remembered accurately, or it takes time to backtrack and figure out what the score is.

## Solution Overview
Our project will remove this difficulty by keeping track of the score through simple voice commands. This way, players only need to keep track of who won the current point. In addition, the project will be battery powered, allowing players to easily take the system on the go and play wherever they want. Our project is different from devices like Amazon Tap due to its visual display and not requiring internet connectivity.

- **Solution Components**
- **Sensing:**
For our project, we will be using a microphone to constantly listen to the environment. When the scorekeeper is addressed, it will then be listening for certain commands to update the score.

- **Controller:** The microcontroller of our project will have to receive the inputs from analog peripherals in addition to processing the digital output of our voice encoder. Because of the potentially heavy digital signal processing component, we plan on using the ARM cortex m4.

-**Power:** In order to power the system and add some portability, we will include a rechargeable battery that will be charged with a charge controller. From the battery, we’ll use a voltage regulator to make sure that our digital system is safely powered.

- **User Interface:**
Our device will be standalone and include hardware components such as LED displays, physical buttons, and others to display the score and allow the user to modify the score manually if needed.

- **Software:**
We would use a voice recognition to transcribe voice to text and recognize specific commands. We will most likely use Python and specific voice recognition software packages to help us.

## Criterion for Success
We have succeeded if our scorekeeping device is able to keep track of the score with simple voice commands.

Laser Harp MIDI Controller with Musical Articulations

Featured Project

Electronic music concerts usually need eye-catching visual aids to create a certain atmosphere. Laser musical instruments is a great way to do this. We have been thinking of this project for a while and it was ECE445 that made this laser harp come true. The novelty of this project is that the harp-like laser device mainly focuses on playing articulations with laser and sensors, as a true universal MIDI controller, to control timbres that are synthesized or sampled. Articulations include piano/forte, vibrato, tremolo, and portamento. With the help of Professors and TAs, we learned how to pick right the components, design PCB, soldering, and program microcontroller. Those skills are not only useful in this class but also really important to electrical engineers. Also, we learned how to use individual strengths, combined with effective teamwork, in the pursuit of meaningful goals.
