Format guidelines for Written Homework

Homeworks for CS 373 must meet the following guidelines. They are intended to help you develop good mathematical style and to allow us to grade homeworks in a sensible manner. If you don't make a good-faith attempt to follow them, we reserve the right to take off lots of points or (in extreme case) give you a zero for the homework.

  1. Solution to each problem will be placed in different drop boxes and will be graded by different people. Hence, solution to each problem must start on a separate sheet of paper, with the names of your group members appearing clearly on the top of every page.
  2. Write the discussion section time (T 2, T 3, W 1, W 4, W 5) of one of your group members in the top righthand corner of each problem, nice and big. We return homeworks in sections, which requires sorting the big pile into separate section piles.
  3. Make sure the following information is clearly visible, and legible, near the top of each sheet:
  4. Never write your social security number on anything.
  5. Your homework should be neat and legible. The writing should be dark enough to be easily read. If you can't write legibly, learn to use a mathematical formatting package (e.g. LaTeX).
