Grading
Policy
Final Exam 35% - May 13, 8-11AM in room TBD
-
Absence and Rescheduling must be excused prior to exam unless a
doctor's certificate or dean's approval is provided.
Mid-term Exam 10%
-
Absence must be excused prior to exam unless a doctor's
certificate or dean's approval is provided.
Homework 10%
-
There will be TWO homework-s (each worth 5% of the Grade). They will be
posted on the web site "Homework and Machine Problems. Homework
must be done by individual students, NOT in groups. Cheating will be penalized (first offense with 0 points for homework, second
offense by assigning F for the course). Each student submits typed solution to the TAs (see
instructions when homework posted). Students should consider the homework as an
opportunity to prepare for midterm and final exams.
Peer Evaluation 5%
-
Each group member at the end of the semester submits peer
evaluation of him/herself and his/her other peers in the group. Each peer will
evaluate performance/contribution of her/his own contribution and other peers
in the group for each assignment.
-
Peer evaluation guidelines what to submit and when: see the 'Peer Evaluation Document' (DOC) (PDF)
Deadline of Peer
Evaluation: Friday, May 6, 5pm
Machine Problems 40%
-
There will be three machine problems this semester. Machine problem
solutions will be submitted via compass on the delivery date. Machine problems
will be executed in groups. The grade/number of points for the MP will apply to
each student in the group. We will have to follow procedures
which are outlined in the Code on Campus Affairs and/or Handbook of
Policies and Regulations Applying to All Students.
Re-grading Policy [very
important!]
After the grades for homework,
an MP or an exam are available, students have 1 week to request re-grading of the homework/MP/exam. Once the 1 week re-grading period passes, students can never ask for re-grading of this homework/MP/exam.
Cheating Policy
Your
homework in this class must be your own. You may discuss, in broad
terms, such things as strategies. Be aware that, as a general rule, pseudo-code
is not "broad terms". The homework and exams you
hand in, however, must contain only your own work. Your written solutions
will be checked for strong similarities with other submissions. If you have any
questions about this policy, please talk to the staff.
Your machine problems will
be a result of group work. Even in this case, the group is responsible for
protecting their work. In the past, we have caught students cheating by copying
solutions from other students without their knowledge. To avoid having your
work copied without your knowledge, refrain from leaving source code prints
lying around the lab, protect your files, don't give your passwords to anyone
outside of group, and enter your passwords in a way that cannot be seen by
others. Do not leave a login session active on an unattended workstation. Use xlock on the CS machines if you must leave briefly, or use
some similar measure (or log out!) in other labs; remember that it's a
violation of the CS policy (and probably the other lab policies) to leave your
workstation unattended for any extended period of time. Report any suspicious
behavior to the lab sitters or the TA.
Late Policy
Assignments
must be handed in by the deadline. There is no late policy.
Exams
The final
exam will be on Friday, May 13, 8-11 AM,
location TBD. Please, attempt to determine and discuss potential exam
conflicts with the staff as soon as possible. In addition, there will be one
in-class midterm exam.
Final Grades
Final grades are determined based on the Gaussian distribution of
the final score (a weighted sum of the exams, MPs, homework assignments, peer
evaluation).
