Here is the first honors homework. and its latex source. Feel free to use some/all of the latex source as a starting point for writing up your solutions.

The first honors assignment will be coming out soon. You'll need to submit your solutions in latex, i.e. real latex-formatted documents rather than the latex equation mode we'll be using for long-form homeworks in the main course. So, while you wait for the first assignment, please use this latex start-up information to get familiar with how to format documents.

The honors add-on does supplementary assignments, whose content varies from term to term. It is is intended for students with strong background, e.g. James scholar and/or a strong GPA plus an A in the prerequisite courses.

To register for this 1sh add-on, you should do the following:

• If you are not a James scholar, get permission from Steve Herzog (smherzog@illinois.edu) Margaret Fleck (mfleck@illinois.edu).
• Register for the honors add-on to CS 173, i.e. CS 196 section 73. Be careful not to register for the wrong section, which will be the honors add-on for a totally different class.
• If you are not in Engineering or DGS and want this course to fulfill the James Scholar requirements, you may also need to set up an "honors credit learning agreement" (HCLA) for CS 173. Speak to the folks in your home college to find out whether this is necessary and to get help with this paperwork. On the HCLA form where it asks what extra work you plan to do, say that you'll complete the assignments for CS 196, section 73.

The honors section does not have its own meeting time. Announcements are made via the regular 173 lectures and Piazza.
