Here is the first honors assignment which is due on Friday March 14th at 5pm.

Honors homeworks will be submitted as hardcopy. Your document must be formatted with latex, i.e. the full latex formatting package, not the simplified interface with equation mode used in moodle and piazza. Here is a page of information on getting started with latex. You may wish to start trying out latex before we release the first honors homework.

The honors add-on does supplementary assignments, whose content varies from term to term. It is is intended for students with strong background, e.g. James scholar and/or a strong GPA plus an A in the prerequisite courses.

To register for this 1sh add-on, you should do the following:

• If you are not a James scholar, get permission from Steve Herzog (smherzog@illinois.edu), Margaret Fleck (mfleck@illinois.edu), or Derek Hoiem (dhoiem@illinois.edu).
• Register for CS 173 (CS 196 section 73). Be careful not to register for the wrong section, which will be the honors add-on for a totally different class.
• If you are not in Engineering or DGS and want this course to fulfill the James Scholar requirements, you may also need to set up an "honors credit learning agreement" (HCLA) for CS 173. Speak to the folks in your home college to find out whether this is necessary and to get help with this paperwork. On the HCLA form where it asks what extra work you plan to do, say that you'll complete the assignments for CS 196, section 73.

The honors section does not have its own meeting time. Announcements are made via the regular 173 lectures and Piazza.
